How Does the Navy Body Fat Calculator Work?
This calculator uses the U.S. Navy circumference method to estimate body fat percentage. Height, neck and waist measurements are used for men, while women also need a hip measurement.
Your weight is not used directly in the Navy body-fat formula. Instead, it is used after the body-fat percentage is calculated to estimate fat mass and lean body mass.

No. Weight is not part of the Navy body-fat formula. It is used here to estimate fat mass and lean body mass after your body-fat percentage is calculated.
Can I use inches instead of centimeters?
Yes. Select IN and enter your height, neck, waist and hip measurements in inches.
Can I enter my weight in pounds?
Yes. Select LB from the weight switch and enter your weight in pounds.
Why do women need a hip measurement?
The Navy formula for women includes hip circumference, so the calculator automatically displays the hip field when Female is selected.
What does lean body mass mean?
Lean body mass is your estimated body weight excluding the calculated fat mass.
Is this calculator 100% accurate?
No. It provides an estimate. Accurate and consistent measurements can help produce a more useful result.
